Development of high-modulus fiberglass has been accelerated since 2010 to meet the growing demand of longer wind turbine blades made of continuous fiberglass reinforced polymer-based composites. Ultra-long wind turbine blades currently demand for new fiberglass products with tensile modulus no less than 93 GPa comparing with typically 88 GPa of the first-generation products. The webinar will cover topics relevant to the development of high-modulus fibers focusing on glass chemistry, structure (S) – property (P) relationship, and newly proposed statistical S-P modeling approach to aid the design of new glass compositions. Finally, the status of the ultra-high modulus fiberglass development (95-100 GPa) at NEG is presented
