The presentation will give an overview of the latest economic developments in the glass industry in Germany. Among other things, it will be examined how the COVID19 pandemic has affected the development of the glass industry. Furthermore, the environmental policy challenges resulting from the EU Green Deal will be dealt with and possible options for action will be discussed. Additional special regulations in Germany, such as the national emissions trading scheme, will also be considered. The glass industry faces enormous challenges with regard to complete decarbonisation in 2050. However, the last two years show that many smaller and larger projects have been initiated throughout Europe to better research the issue of decarbonisation. Even if these projects are still in their infancy, they show that there is great potential to achieve decarbonisation by 2050.
